André Picard

André Picard is the health columnist at The Globe and Mail, where he has been a staff writer since 1987. He is also the author of six bestselling books.

André has received much acclaim for his writing. He has twice been named as the country’s “best columnist” by the National Newspaper Awards, Canada's top journalism prize. He is also a past winner of the prestigious Michener Award for Meritorious Public Service Journalism, the Canadian Journalism Foundation Tribute and the Hyman Solomon Prize for Public Policy Journalism. André has also been honoured for his dedication to improving healthcare by a number of consumer groups, including being named Canada's first "Public Health Hero" by the Canadian Public Health Association and as a "Champion of Mental Health" by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health.

André is a graduate of the University of Ottawa (BComm) and Carleton University (BJournalism) and holds honorary doctorates from seven universities.
